Created back in 2014 as a way to share healthy, simple vegetarian food creations, check out the archives of the Tumblr website to see past creations for inspiration.
It developed over the years to include photos from our Backyard Garden Projects, food creations, pet sitting, cooking with friends in other countries, and travel. Now, the food posted is entirely plant-based.
The books I am listing here have been a few of the most informative books I have read, and keep with me to continue to consult.
Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition, is another excellent resource, reminding us that nothing works in isolation, and that there is so much more than we can know about how what we eat really works. As scientists, we can discover new aspects of things we experience in the world, like vitamins, but there many more aspects related to our discoveries that are not yet uncovered or fully understood.
The China Study is great for someone who wants to see some evidence to back up changing to a diet of whole, plant-based foods.
How Not to Die is another book more focused on studies and data.
The Starch Solution: I have not read this book yet, but have watched Dr. John McDougall’s talks regarding his previous books as well as this one. I highly recommend this read, or even to watch his talk about the book on YouTube. Just look up John McDougall Starch Solution.
McDougall’s Medicine: A Challenging Second Opinion is an excellent book to learn about the common medical treatments for some chronic degenerative diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, breast cancer, arthritis, and kidney failure. Learn about why doctors provide the type of treatments they do, and why you should know more before just accepting those treatments.
Digestive Tune-Up is an excellent resource that explains the digestive tract from the mouth to the anus, and all of the chronic digestive conditions people suffer with. Learn how the food we eat determines our digestive health, and how that digestive health can be a marker for our overall health.
The Healthiest Diet on the Planet includes Dr. McDougall’s color picture book in the center, which is an excellent aid in sharing with someone just what it means to eat a whole food, plant-based diet. Recipes are in the back section of the book, and diet and health concerns are addressed in the first section.
The Pleasure Trap was written by Dr. Doug Lisle, PhD and Dr. Alan Goldhamer, MD. This book explores the human relationship with food, disease, and medicine. Most of us are locked in some pleasure trap; unquestioningly believing in something, like the magic of modern medicine and technology and it’s supposed ability to heal us; or not thinking about what food we eat, but finding ourselves with cravings for certain foods. Learn more about why our physiology determines how we behave and our relationship with modern food; and what each of us can do to avoid the pleasure traps.
Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., MD. Renowned heart surgeon, Dr. Esselstyn proved that severe heart disease can be reversed with a whole foods, plant-based diet.

Other books focus on herbs and wild edibles that I find useful.
I have also found it fascinating that some of the most common weeds, i.e. dandelion and plantain, seem to follow people, and are also some of the most beneficial wild edibles.
